The word "tejas" pronounced ("TAY- Haus") ,comes from táysha, a word in the Native American Caddo Indian language, which means "friends"
or "allies".
While no single tribe of Indians called
themselves Tejas, the word translated to mean “friend,” and generally referred to the allied tribes of their confederacy.

The American Blackbelly is a cross between the three different
sheep breeds, the Barbados Blackbelly, the Mouflon and the Rambouillet. This cross breeding produced different shades
of tans, browns and reds in their coat. This breeding choice also developed a variety of differnt horn types. These magnificant
horns make the American Blackbelly a prized animal among sportsman.

causing damage to the animal. All animals should be treated for coccidia soon after arriving at their new home or inspected
by a Vet to determine if they need treated for the stress caused by traveling to their new homes. Tejas Ranch is not responsible

**Important Information: It is essential that you find
a reliable veterinarian that is knowledgeable about Goat & Sheep care. It is also very helpful to have a
mentor or "goat friend" that you can call with questions.
First know that Goats & Sheep are herd
animals, you will need to keep at least 2 for them to be happy and well adjusted.
**We do not recommend
that you purchase goats from any auction. MANY of the animals at auctions are sick, and some are sick enough that
they will not live to see another week. The stress of being placed in the auction, overcrowding, rough handling and contagious
illnesses all lead to this. Our advice STAY AWAY from livestock auctions all together.
Instead look for a knowledgeable goat
breeder who will be there to give you support after you take your goats home, as we do.
It doesn't matter how many goats a breeder
keeps, a larger goat breeder does not necessarily mean a better one. Ask local livestock veterinarians or even farm
stores for a reference to good goat breeders.
